Birmingham 2022 will make history featuring women's T20 cricket for the first time in history. The 15 players added to Team England's roster has finally been revealed including teenagers Alice Capsey and Freya Kemp making their international debuts.

Cricket star Issy Wong meanwhile is thrilled to be playing for her home city, along with Amy Jones. Wong said: "It's really surreal to be picked to play for Team England in a Commonwealth Games in my home city. I can't really put into words how much it means.

"You grow up watching events like the Commonwealth Games and it's the kind of thing that inspires you to get outside and play sport. It’s a huge honour."

The Women's T20 Cricket will take place at Edgbaston Stadium, debuting on the first day of competition July 29. Team England is pooled in group B (England, South Africa, Sri Lanka and New Zealand) and will face off against Sri Lanka on July 30. Australia, Barbados, India and Pakistan are in group A.

Much excitement has surrounded the inclusion of women's cricket at the Commonwealth Games. The Birmingham 2022 Festival included theatre performance 'A Thousand Threads' which explored moving stories of women's cricket and the cultural and gender barriers they often face when playing in the male dominated sport.

Birmingham 2022 Hometown Hero Salma Bi MBE has been heavily involved in promoting the games through her role as a grassroots cricket champion. The trailblazer is also one of the few female Asian umpires in the UK and founder of the first all Asian women's cricket team.

Women's cricket achievements have also been stamped into Birmingham as Salma's face graced a colourful Commonwealth mural painted outside New Street Station.

Captain Heather Knight commented: "We can't wait to represent Team England at the Commonwealth Games. It's such a huge opportunity, and the thought of potentially being able to medal is so exciting. We’re so excited to get to Birmingham and get going."
